Getting your firearms licence
Getting your firearms licence may be a little easier than you realise.
We have on-site SAPOL approved instructors
First steps to shooting at The Gunnery Shooting Club
Firstly you will need to complete an application for a firearms licence and take it completed to your local Police Station.
Once SAPOL have concluded their checks, you will be sent an "Authority to train" letter.
What type of licence categories are there?
On your licence application you will have quite a few choices. However if you only intend to shoot within The Gunnery Shooting Club, you would need to have "Purpose Of Use 1"
Example: A1, B1 & H1
This will give you the ability to be able to own and use (A1)Shotguns, Rimfire Rifles, (B1) Centerfire Rifles & (H1) Handguns
Once you have your letter.
Once you receive your letter back from SAPOL approving you to train, you can contact us to book in on the next available course.
Our courses are run by professional instructors who make it a pleasure to learn how to use a firearm, in a safe and controlled manner.
Types of training.
With your handgun licence, there are different types of training;
1. Basic Range Shooting.
2. IPSC - Moving and shooting & holster training.
The minimum requirement is Basic Range Shooting and this is completed at our Christies Beach facility. If you would like to go for the more advanced training of IPSC (which is a lot of fun) this is done over a weekend at our new facility near Lameroo.
When you finish training.
Once our instructor has signed that you have passed the training, forms will be sent to SAPOL for them to issue your licence.
You will also need to join The Gunnery Shooting Club as you have applied for a Club Licence. If you are also doing Hunting & Target this is a seperate course with Tafe.
From the day you are signed off and join you will be able to have access to our ranges. We also have club guns available to hire.
